Are you inspired by our collections? Are you interested in encouraging others to delve into the rich resources contained within the Manchester Museum?

We are seeking to appoint a Collections Access Officer to facilitate access to the collections for individual visitors, researchers, students and teaching groups via Manchester Museum’s Collections Study Centre. The post-holder will also manage collection image storage and reproduction requests for both the Museum and the Whitworth, and support the Museum & Gallery Registrar with organisation of long and short term loans and touring exhibitions.

You will be a friendly, articulate and outward facing individual, with excellent communication and diplomatic skills, a commitment to providing public access to the Museum’s collections and an ability to remain calm and cordial while working in a busy environment. You will also have a methodical and logical approach in dealing with collections management systems, and a meticulous attention to detail.

You will have experience of working with museum or gallery collections, an awareness of collection care issues and object handling, computer literacy and an enquiring mind to ensure a proactive approach to facilitating public access to these important assets of the University.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the black and minority ethnic (BME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
