The School of Engineering has world-leading research conducted through its two departments (Civil Engineering & Industrial Design and Mechanical, Materials & Aerospace Engineering). Teaching-related activities within the School have many outstanding features and are bolstered by state-of-the-art, active teaching labs and extensive outreach activities. The School has been awarded Athena Swan Bronze and is ambitious to attain a Silver, and ultimately, a Gold Award. 

The University is now looking to appoint a Dean of the School of Engineering. The Dean will be an individual who is an exceptional academic leader, able to drive the School forward and be responsible for the delivery of local plans in support of the University’s strategic plan (Strategy 2026). They will have an outstanding academic track record, demonstrating research excellence and leadership and the potential to drive forward the research agenda of the School. They will ensure the delivery of an outstanding modern curriculum to over 1,500 students across the School’s engineering disciplines that meet the stated educational aims of The University and the discipline specific accreditation bodies. The appointee will possess proven experience in academic leadership, possibly from leading a significant research activity, in the formulation and delivery of the strategy. 

The Dean will take responsibility for strategic development within the School, leading the School’s Management Team in identifying future collaborative inter-disciplinary research and impact opportunities, maintaining and building strategic partnerships with business and developing innovations in scholarship that will enhance our students’ experience. The Dean will also be a member of the Faculty’s senior management team and will play a part in shaping and delivering the Faculty’s overall strategy.
