The University of Queensland Biological Resources Unit (UQBR) manages the laboratory animal production and research facilities for the University of Queensland.
The role of UQBR is to provide UQ with world class Animal Research services within a best practice ethical framework.
We are currently advertising for a Material Handler support (HEW 3) position within UQ Biological Resources / AIBN animal facility based at St Lucia campus, in Brisbane.
The primary purpose would be assisting with the running of UQBR Animal Facility cage wash areas, under the direction of the area Supervisor. The person would undertake cage wash, and waste management activities within UQBR/AIBN. The position is also required to undertake material handling procedures in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP), adherence to regulations and policies and work with in a team environment.
Medical Clearance: Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position. Your appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety. In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.
You may be required to obtain satisfactory medical clearance(s) as part of the criteria for the role.
Applicants should possess qualifications in technical or animal care relevant disciplines. Experience in working within animal facilities central wash areas is desirable. You should also have a high level of organizational skills, and be able to demonstrate knowledge or experience with managing store stock levels.
This person must have excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders and work effectively in a team environment.
Immunisation requirements: Insert as appropriate for prospective UQ staff who will be interacting in QLD Health clinical facilities; or in an equivalent clinical health facility; or a health care role; or who will be performing work tasks that put them at risk of exposure to vaccine-preventable disease. These staff are required to provide evidence of immunisation against specified vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs). For further information, refer to section 4 of the Vaccinations and Immunisation Guidelines (PPL 2.60.08). Need to ensure that the duties of the role reflect the need for immunisation.
It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

This is a full-time, 3 year fixed term appointment at HEW Level 3. The remuneration package will be in the range $54,042 - $59,800 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $63,229 - $69,966 p.a.).
