Join the Creative Services group of Stanford Medicine’s Office of Medical Center Development (MCD), a high-functioning, highly productive creative team that produces 400+ communications products a year to spark philanthropic support of Stanford Medicine.

We are seeking a mission-driven communications professional who is experienced in managing various aspects of content production, distribution and management. Core responsibilities of the role include writing and editing of marketing/communications related materials, management of an internal writing staff of two as well as a number of freelance writing relationships. Candidate must be comfortable with and possess proficiency in project management and understand or have a willingness to learn new technologies as they will play a lead role in implementing an enterprise wide DAM (Digital Asset Management) solution and be required to learn and work with marketing automation platforms. 

The Assistant Director of Communications and Content Management will report to and work closely as a thought partner with the Director of Communications, Digital and Content Strategy and will be part of a top-notch team of writers, designers, video/film specialists, digital media, and other creative professionals working together to inspire philanthropic support for research and clinical programs at the Stanford University School of Medicine and Stanford Health Care (formerly known as Stanford Hospital & Clinics.) The ideal candidate will be proactive, with superior organizational skills, who enjoys multi-tasking and working across teams. 

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the guidance of senior management, works on the development and implementation of marketing and communications activities, enabling programs, services, and/or projects to meet MCD’s organizational objectives. Drives cross-functional collaboration across the organization. Provides direct supervision to personnel, as well as the management of select outside vendors, to ensure effective operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Recommending, managing and executing elements of integrated marketing plans/programs and strategies to meet business objectives.
  • Supporting the development and management of the communication and content strategy for individual program(s) incorporating appropriate channels (i.e., writing, email marketing, etc.)
  • Working with Director to manage multi-phased planning and implementation process for enterprise-wide DAM solution, including defining project plan/roadmap, timeline and measurable goals. Helping to establish core workgroup, gathering stakeholder information, overseeing requirements for planning and helping to evaluate platforms.
  • Providing writing, editing and proofreading support as needed as well as quality control to ensure all written materials developed are of the highest quality and adhere to established writing standards 
  • Responsibility for (2) writing staff including the recruitment, management, development, and retention.
  • Managing freelance writing relationships and/or serving as a project lead on writing projects.
  • Managing program goals, and objectives in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Participating in regular department-wide and team meetings.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in product, program and/or services marketing and/or communications.
  • Experience with digital, web and print marketing.
  • Ability to direct cross-functional teams toward a common goal.
  • Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • An excitement for change management, taking on new challenges and building new programs.
  • Creativity for problem solving coupled with critical thinking skills to learn how people and things work.
  • Agility. The ability to pick up on new technologies quickly. Experience with technology including enterprise content management, DAM and marketing automation systems a plus.
  • Excitement for optimizing collaboration and knowledge-sharing. 
  • Ease of working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Understanding for implementing effective marketing programs across multiple channels.
  • Prior experience in planning and managing complex marketing/communications programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.

LOCATION:

  • This role is currently based in the Palo Alto Research Park on Porter Drive but will be relocating to the new Stanford Redwood City campus in Spring, 2019 with opportunities to telecommute part-time from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
