The University of Bristol is looking to appoint a Head of Health and Safety.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you will direct and shape the way occupational health and safety is managed across all areas of the University, providing professional advice to the Board of Trustees via the Vice Chancellor and HR Committee on all matters relating to the occupational health and safety of the staff, students and visitors to the University.

Leading a team of subject matter experts you will enable all relevant legislative requirements to be applied and enforced, establishing and maintaining clear mechanisms to provide assurance to the Board of Trustees and the HR Committee that occupational health and safety risks are being managed effectively and that its legislative obligations are being met.  In addition you will be responsible for the development and overall delivery of the University’s occupational health and safety strategy, providing the driving force for continuous improvement and positive change in the University’s health and safety culture and management practices.

With proven experience of leading and directing the management of occupational H & S (including fire safety) to communities engaged in diverse and challenging activities you will have the ability to influence and implement change in safety culture.  This will include the understanding of how strong H & S management can be applied in a Higher Education or other multi site, large organisation as well as developing support and advisory services that meet the needs of a range of users and stakeholders.  You will also have the ability to provide leadership and management to a team comprising subject matter experts and administrative functions.
