Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Health is the most programmatically diverse and interprofessional health faculty in Canada, with more than 35 programs. The Faculty is comprised of 10 units — eight schools, one college and one program — and offers undergraduate, masters, doctoral, diploma, certificate and professional programs. Its 200 faculty, 80 staff and over 3000 students are committed to improving the well-being of individuals, families, communities and populations through innovative health programming, collaborative research and strong community partnerships.
Dalhousie University is seeking a new Dean of Health, to build on the Faculty’s strength as a regional, national and international leader in interprofessional education and high-impact health research. The Dean will provide vision and leadership that will inspire students, faculty and staff to achieve health and social system innovation, guided by the Faculty’s Strategic Plan (2017-2022). Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the Dean plays a crucial role in maintaining the standards, integrity, effectiveness and efficiency of the academic enterprise, contributing to fundraising efforts, and aligning the financial operations of the Faculty with its academic mission. The Dean will lead by example, fostering a collegial and respectful environment, all with attention to issues of equity, diversity and inclusion.
As the ideal candidate, you are a trusted and inspirational leader with outstanding communications and community engagement skills, and a holistic understanding of health and social systems. You hold an advanced degree in a relevant field of study, have significant leadership experience in a complex environment, and bring with you a track record of research excellence with impact on health and wellness. You foster a collegial and supportive environment that embraces innovation, technology, growth, and the pursuit of academic excellence. You understand the evolving health needs of the population and the corresponding innovation required in health and social systems. You are willing and able to be a champion of the Faculty and will work to balance the demands of academic rigour with the mental health and well-being of students, faculty and staff. You have the required business and financial acumen to lead a large faculty, are comfortable with revenue generation activities from fundraising to government and industry partnerships, and are ready to pursue the capital expansion needs of the Faculty.
