Role Statement

Salary Level: Classification Level 5/6 (Salary range A$66,509 to A$83,392 gross per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions)

Overview of USC International

USC International (USCI) under the general direction of the Pro Vice Chancellor (International and Quality) provides assistance and support to prospective USC international students. USCI’s key responsibilities lie within the admission and recruitment of international students to USC. USCI manages the marketing, recruitment, admission of, and provision of specialist services to international students for award programs, Study Abroad and ELICOS.   

Overview of the Role

Working as part of the USCI team, this role will carry out admissions specific duties and contribute to the recruitment of international students into award, and non-award programs at USC. At Level 6, this role will also provide expertise and support to a range of other USCI administrative functions and recruitment strategies to attract international students.

This includes assessing and admitting international students in accordance with University policies and procedures; providing assessment of overseas qualifications, eligibility for entry and applicants’ status as genuine students and genuine temporary entrants; and advising of assessment outcomes to key stakeholders.

In addition, this role will advise applicants, students, staff, recruitment representatives, partner institutions, and the broader community on international admissions requirements and procedures; and contribute to the administration of the University’s compliance and reporting requirements under the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act, including production of Confirmation of Enrolment documents, Department of Education and Training (DET) reporting via PRISMS, and other related University procedures.

At Level 6, this role will advise and assist with maintenance and improvement of admissions-related processes to ensure the consistent provision of high quality customer service in the recruitment of international students and provide expert advice regarding changes to relevant legislation, including their impact on the work carried out by the team, and implement the operational and procedural responses required.

The successful applicant will contribute to the ongoing improvement and maintenance of admissions and recruitment related initiatives to ensure the consistent provision of high quality customer service in the recruitment of international students.

To be appointed at Level 5, the successful applicant requires a university degree combined with relevant experience in international admissions in an Australian university. They must have the ability to provide expert advice on the admissions and enrolment process of international students, including the assessment of overseas qualifications, Student visa and Overseas Student Health Cover requirements and the needs of international students.

To be appointed at Level 6, the successful applicant must have extensive relevant experience in Australian universities and specialist expertise in the admission and enrolment of international students and extensive expertise with student visas and Overseas Student Health Cover. Relevant experience in the recruitment of international students and a comprehensive understanding of the specific needs of international students is essential.

The incumbent is required to work as part of a team with minimal supervision and must have initiative and flexibility to adapt to a constantly changing work environment. Excellent administrative, data entry and computing skills, including with specialised computer databases, are essential to perform the functions of this role. Due to the nature of international office operations including working across multiple time zones, work outside normal working hours will be required.

Essential experience

This role, whether at level 5 or 6, requires specialist knowledge and experience which can only be gained by having current experience working in international admissions in an Australian university.
