About the opportunity 

The University Centre of Rural Health, Northern Rivers is looking for an enthusiastic Human Resources Officer who will be responsible for supporting a broad range of HR administrative functions, providing advice and reporting to managers and staff in the Clinical school.

The HR Officer works under guidance and is responsible for making decisions in the completion of daily tasks related to functions of the office and their key accountabilities. The incumbent is expected to exercise a degree of initiative and judgement in planning work activity, and resolving problems associated with day-to-day operating procedures directly linked to their key accountabilities. Problems that cannot be resolved and are outside the scope of their key accountabilities are referred to supervisors or more senior co-workers. They work with a range of staff across the administrative team and in the wider University administration environment to meet work area objectives. Using previous experience in HR administration they are expected to resolve routine issues and utilise their knowledge of administrative procedures to be successful in their role. Confidentiality and professionalism are a must in dealing with often sensitive and complex issues.

  • Certificate IV in Business Administration or equivalent with relevant business administration experience
  • proven ability to interpret and understand HR policies, practices and entitlements and their interaction with relevant awards or enterprise agreements
  • excellent written, verbal communication skills and excellent customer service, negotiation and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organisation
  • strong problem-solving skills and ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy period

The successful candidate will have high level computer literacy with advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Previous experience working in Higher Education environment is desirable.
