Job description

This full-time permanent post is jointly based in the Faculty of EEC and sigma, Coventry University's central team that provides mathematics and statistics support to students from all faculties as well as to staff and postgraduates engaged in research. The person appointed would join the statistics team in the School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics and the three specialist statisticians currently in sigma in the environment of a well-established and resourced student facing maths and stats support team, in a subject group leadership role for statistics across the two areas.

The person appointed should expect to provide direction for, or contribute to, the majority of the following:

  • provide and direct frontline teaching;
  • provide online support and training;
  • offer consultancy for University research bids and projects;
  • create teaching and learning resources;
  • promote their services across campus through personal contact and interest groups;
  • contribute to the national net work for mathematics and statistics support (also called sigma) at a leadership level.

We intend to appoint a qualified statistician with a PhD and background, knowledge and interests covering a broad range of subjects which will allow them to contribute to subject areas across the University. A specialism complementing those of the current staff would be welcomed, but applications from all areas of statistics will be carefully considered. Familiarity with statistics software is required (Coventry University uses SPSS, Minitab and R and some other packages less frequently). Above all, applicants should have a genuine vocation for helping others to learn, an ability to communicate well across a wide range of degree levels and student abilities, and a willingness to go the extra mile.
