Job description

Full-time, Permanent

Committed to research and teaching excellence and passionate about the arts, humanities, design and media, Coventry University Faculty of Art and Humanities is a vibrant community of scholars, researchers and practitioners with profile across the globe and a heritage of quality built up over 150 years.

The School of Media and Performing Arts has a long-sustained reputation for innovation and enjoys a rapidly rising profile. It has established a highly distinctive approach towards its teaching, research and professional practice and offers exciting undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Dance, Theatre, Music and Music Technology and within Media, Media and Communications, Journalism, Media Production, Digital Media, and Photography.

Merging the creative and the technical, the Digital Media BA course develops skills and practices suited to a range of fields including the Internet of Things (IoT), immersive technologies such as augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and web, mobile and games app development.

The Digital Media BA course is different from a traditional programming or computer science course as its focus is primarily on creative production in the field of media using digital tools in 3D modelling, application development, immersive technologies, and audio and video production among others.

We are seeking an academic with established profile in a distinctive field within Digital Media, to join our thriving, innovative course. Applicants should hold a doctorate in Digital Media or a related field or equivalent professional experience and be able to relate the key debates framing the transformation and location of network media in contemporary culture to teaching contexts from both a theory and practice perspective. In addition, applicants must have a proven track record of delivering a first-class student experience within a higher education environment. Experience of education innovation would be advantageous.

Successful candidates will undertake teaching assessment and delivery within our BA in Digital Media course.  They must be able to work within the frameworks of experimental digital media practice and have capabilities in utilising, and ideally developing for, web/mobile/networked and social media platforms. This post covers an array of specialisms in emerging forms of network media, spanning creative coding and Internet of Things (IoT). Please refer to the individual Job Description for more information.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a continuing engagement with pedagogic development -those without a teaching qualification will be required to undertake Coventry University's PGCHE and/or secure HEA fellowship; and must have a proven track record of delivering a first-class student experience within a higher education environment.

Successful applicants will have a strong track record of research/scholarship (contributing to REF, and subsequent evaluations). They will have engaged actively in research, publication, income generation and/or professional practice in recent critical/theoretical approaches to network media and post digital cultures.
