The School of Computer Science and Engineering operates within the Faculty of Engineering and is a critical work unit responsible for delivery of academic priorities of the University and in interactions with students, alumni, industry, government, professional bodies and the community. It delivers one of the strongest undergraduate programs in Australia, leading to high employability of its graduates. It comprises 8 research groups: artificial intelligence, databases, embedded systems, networked systems and security, programming languages and compilers, service-oriented computing, trustworthy systems, and theoretical computer science. The School also boasts strong industry and government connections, including as a partner with CSIRO’s Data61.

UNSW is currently seeking a Head of the School of Computer Science and Engineering. Reporting to the Faculty Dean, the appointee will ideally be a respected scholar, with the energy, resilience and vision to take on leadership of the School and engage meaningfully with both internal and external stakeholders. She/he will display outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to drive development of staff and further strengthening of the School’s capability across research, teaching, and especially engagement with industry and the community.
