The School of Biological Sciences

The School of Biological Sciences is part of the Faculty of Science and is one of the largest and most successful of its type in Australia, with 48 full-time academic staff, and over 200 enrolled PhD students. The School has broad expertise across ecology and evolution, molecular and quantitative genetics, paleobiology, developmental biology, behaviour, plant and animal physiology, and conservation biology. The Marine Genomics Lab is a well-equipped research laboratory headed by A/Prof Sandie Degnan and Prof Bernie Degnan. It includes a large closed marine aquarium that houses a large diversity of coral reef and subtropical marine invertebrates.

The role

The successful appointee will maintain marine organisms and aquaria as part of a medium-large (10-20 staff and HDR students) laboratory focused on molecular, cell and developmental biology and genomics of marine invertebrates. This position is specifically focussed on maintaining marine invertebrates, primarily coral reef sponges and crown-of-thorns starfish. A degree in marine science and experience with university research environments is desirable

The person

Applicants should possess experience in the operation, maintenance and construction of marine aquariums and marine invertebrate husbandry; have strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students and volunteers; and able to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines.

This is a part-time, fixed term appointment at HEW Level 5. The remuneration package will be in the range pro-rata $66,347 - $74,098 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range pro-rata $77, 626 - $86,695 p.a.).
