Aging Research Center (ARC), an interdisciplinary research center with focus on older people and aging in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University is opening a two year post-doc position. The Social Gerontology research group is now looking for a skilled and innovative person who will contribute to the development of our ongoing research. Our research group uses cross-sectional and longitudinal data from interview studies and registers to study aging and older people’s health and living conditions. Currently, we are working with multiple scientific questions on topics such as:
- older people’s health and mortality risks
- health trends and health- and social care at population level
- how living conditions and habits experienced throughout the life course are associated with helath and living conditions later in life.
These areas are often pursued addressing equality issues.
A large part of the scientific activities at the social gerontology group at ARC are based on the ongoing population-based SWEOLD-study, which includes people 76+ years who are followed up at regular intervals. The current post doc position will be part of the project: ‘Psychosocial working conditions and late-life physical functioning: What role do gender, socioeconomic position, work-life balance, and coping mechanisms play?’ Over the course of the postdoctoral appointment, the candidate will plan, analyse, structure, and report on results from the current project. The candidate is expected to perform high-level research and publish in international, scientific journals.
A person is eligible for a position as post-doc position if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. We are looking for a candidate with documented experience and interest in social gerontology. Employment criteria include the quality of earlier research and qualifications, and the degree to which the applicant’s previous research support the overall goals of the project. Prior experience with longitudinal population-based databases and data modelling is also a requirement. Excellent collaborative, communication and writing skills are needed. Very good English and Swedish skills in speaking and writing are an absolute requirement for the position. (The postdoc will be involved in a new SWEOLD data collection. This makes knowledge Swedish crucial.) Independence and strong motivation are expected throughout the project.
An employment application must contain the following documents in English:
