Job description

The University of Central Lancashire wishes to recruit a Laboratory Technician to join our Technical Services team who provide support to the wide variety of science research projects and laboratory facilities at our Preston campus. The successful candidate will primarily be focused on supporting research within our state of the art Biomedical Research Facility science based in Darwin Building

Duties will include providing day to day technical support and advice to staff and students studying a diverse range of subjects in the science area.

The successful candidate will be required to prepare, set out, clear away chemicals, media, solutions, reagents and apparatus as appropriate. The candidate will also be expected to undertake maintenance and configuration of equipment and relevant software. As well as help with the introduction of new technologies, procedures and practices and be familiar with scientific instrumentation related to the disciplines.

Educated to degree level in a related science subject or equivalent experiential learning in the biological sciences industry. They successful candidate must be willing to work towards achieving Home office Licensee Modules: PIL AB and C.

Experience in a customer facing technical support role is also essential, with recent experience of supervising and training staff as well as Experience of instruction and demonstration of a diverse range of technical laboratory equipment and techniques.

Candidates need to be practical people with a keen interest in science and technology supported by great customer service skills. The ability to adapt knowledge and experience to support staff and students across the wide range of subject disciplines we support would be a distinct advantage. Candidates must also have good verbal and written communication skills.
