About the role
The Dean of The Bartlett, UCL’s Faculty of the Built Environment, is a truly unique role. The Bartlett’s name is globally recognised and over the last several years has grown to become the most comprehensive built environment faculty in the UK. Our work is about human spaces; from physical structures like homes, buildings and cities, to the invisible structures that govern these things: political, legal and financial. We are a highly multidisciplinary faculty, and in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), we were found to have produced more 4*-rated research than our next three UK competitors combined and are anticipating an equally successful REF2021.
The Bartlett was awarded an Athena SWAN bronze award across the entire faculty in 2016 and we are continuing with our mission to embody equality, diversity and inclusion across the senior leadership right down to the students. We are spearheading a new initiative to bring greater diversity to the built environment professions and open up education to a new audience. We are pledging that 2% of our student intake are to receive a full fee waiver and a living stipend, starting in 2020, with the aim of growing this percentage over time.
During 2019, the faculty will be celebrating the centenary of being named The Bartlett. The new Dean will provide a cohesive vision across the faculty as we start our journey into the next 100 years.
