The Role

The Centre for Healthcare Resilience and Implementation Science (CHRIS) is seeking an experienced Postdoctoral Research Fellow with a background in quantitative research, with post-graduate qualifications in public health, epidemiology, psychology or biostatistics or a related health field. The role involves using your strong quantitative research skills to contribute to a range of research projects examining health outcomes.

About You:

Working with Associate Professor Rebecca Mitchell, an expert in health outcomes and injury surveillance, you will:

  • Have a clear understanding of how to apply various research and statistical methods to health research questions.
  • Be able to develop statistical models through analysing health data.
  • Draft and contribute to the development of peer-review publications and other research outcomes.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team, while being able to meet tight deadlines and be able to adapt workloads, as necessary.

About the Project

Increasing life expectancy has resulted in a higher proportion of older individuals in the population compared to a decade ago. As the population ages, demand will increase for hospital and aged care services, including residential aged care. The successful applicant will predominantly work on a research project that is examining factors that influence older individuals (ie. ≥65 years) transitioning between health and aged care services. The research will involve using a life-course approach to examine the influence of individual and psychosocial characteristics on individual trajectories through the health and aged care systems in NSW for individuals who sustain an injury. 

There will also be opportunities to both manage and work on other projects that examine health outcomes following paediatric and adult injury, along with motor vehicle crash-related injuries.

The Centre for Healthcare Resilience and Implementation Science (CHRIS) is part of the Australian Institute of Health Innovation within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, and has a successful track record of undertaking research and evaluation projects on health sector issues since 1991. Its core interest is to investigate issues of policy, governance and leadership in the health sector. It is involved in conducting original research into clinical governance issues, providing a scholarly capability by which to evaluate health sector policies, programs and projects, and contributing to undergraduate medical, postgraduate health services management, and public health and doctoral education.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • PhD in public health, epidemiology, psychology or biostatistics or a related health field.
  • Experience with different research designs and data analysis for health research, including statistical modelling experience, ideally working with large health datasets.
  • Demonstrated research track record of peer-review publications.
  • Advanced computer skills, including use of SAS.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively on research projects.

Desirable:

  • Experience with using the Secure Uniform Research Environment (SURE).
