The Director of the ECI will provide leadership, vision and interdisciplinary research direction to the Institute. The successful candidate will be a recognised international expert who provides intellectual leadership and establishes the strategic direction of major, cross-cutting research programmes. 

The Director has executive responsibility for the fulfilment of the ECI’s vision by leading and strengthening its research culture; raising the profile and influence of the Institute amongst diverse, high-level external audiences; increasing the standing of the Institute within the University; sustaining and developing stakeholder and funder partnerships; and overall operational management of the Institute. The main duties will be to lead and engage in independent research, produce high-quality publications of an international standard and to write research grant applications generating significant research income.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a relevant discipline or have equivalent experience. The postholder will have demonstrated a global academic reputation in one of the ECI’s related disciplines, successful leadership experience, have a record of excellence in research, publication and teaching, significant experience of inspiring and supporting academic, research and support staff, and significant experience of developing research strategies and managing large research projects. 

This post is available for five years fixed term, with the possibility of a second term.
