Heriot-Watt University, The Times International University of the Year 2018, has established a reputation for world-class teaching and leading-edge, high-impact research, which has made it one of the top UK universities for interdisciplinary research with strong links to business and industry.

To celebrate our 2021 bicentenary of pioneering research we are seeking to make one or more academic appointment(s) to enhance existing research strengths in The Department of Mathematics (part of The School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences). We would welcome, particularly, applicants with expertise in the areas of differential geometry, applied mathematics or computational mathematics and applicants whose research has the potential for industrial or interdisciplinary connections.

To be considered for the role you will have a PhD in the mathematical sciences and a strong research track record at international level, demonstrated through publications, external invitations and research funding. You must also have the relevant experience or potential to be able to engage in our undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics teaching programmes, including the supervision of PhD students. The Department has a strong collaborative ethos, and as the successful candidate, you will also have the aspiration to continue to build our world-class research activity, as well as the drive and commitment to contribute to develop and innovate our teaching programmes.

We will consider candidates at the level of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor, depending on experience. Exceptional candidates wishing to apply for a Full Professor role should contact the Head of School (see below) for a preliminary informal discussion.

If you would like further information about this post, please contact the Head of Mathematics, Prof. Andy White, at hod.maths@hw.ac.uk, or the Head of School, Prof. Beatrice Pelloni, at hos-macs@hw.ac.uk.

The School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences has an Athena SWAN Bronze Award and is committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce, and to offering equality of opportunity to all. We welcome and will be happy to discuss requests for flexible working arrangements.
