The World’s First Business School
JOSEPH WHARTON, FOUNDER
In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Wharton’s pioneering vision was to produce graduates who would become ‘pillars of the state, whether in private or in public life.’ The Wharton School maintains a long tradition of educating visionary business leaders in academia, business, government, and not-for-profit organizations.

Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations, Lifelong Learning and Global Forums, the Associate Director works within Wharton External Affairs and contributes to the planning, execution and successful implementation of the School’s Lifelong Learning programming, important component of alumni engagement, which includes the Global Forums, alumni reunions, and regional, campus, and online events.
In collaboration with the Director and Executive Director of Alumni Relations, the associate director is responsible for building influence and alliances across the School (faculty, senior administrators, staff and academic departments) to ensure the alumni lifelong learning experience is consistent and Wharton-caliber.
The position also works closely in partnerships with colleagues in External Affairs on creating a cohesive strategy and seamless executions for lifelong learning involving marketing, communications, data analytics, operations, digital strategy, stewardship, events, clubs, engagements and programming. Lifelong Learning program management activities include, program execution, marketing and outreach campaigns to drive attendance, quality control and ROIanalysis, managing budget, conducting stakeholder analysis, research and analyze impact of engagement, create systems and processed to improve efficiency, transparency and effectiveness. The incumbent will have direct contact and communications with key external constituencies: alumni, high-level executive speakers, business leaders, government
officials, prospect students and corporate donors. The incumbent will represent Wharton External Affairs and its mission to alumni, external contacts, students, and the Wharton and Penn communities.
A Bachelor s degree and 3-5 years of experience of equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 3-5 years of experience in project
management and program development is highly desired, as well as experience in working with alumni, faculty, and communications and or marketing.
The ideal candidate must display ability to understand a senior business community, advanced presentation and communication skills, understanding
of international cultures and heightened diplomacy skills; confidence and maturity to work with senior business alumni and faculty. Must be detail
oriented, pragmatic, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Exceptional collaboration, leadership, and conflict resolution skills required.
Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel both domestically and internationally. A valid driver s license and passport are
