POLICY MANAGER (POLITICAL ECONOMY AND GOVERNANCE), Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL)-Policy and Communications Group, to contribute to J-PAL’s mission of promoting evidence-informed policy. The Policy and Communications Group plays a key role in translating research by J-PAL affiliates into actionable poverty alleviation policies around the world. Staff connect the dots between economics and policy and are passionate about working with organizations to inform development policy. J-PAL’s Political Economy and Governance (PEG) sector works to identify policies and programs that improve service delivery and make governments more responsive to citizens’ needs. A particular focus is given to increasing citizens’ participation in the political and policy process, reducing corruption and leakages, and building state capacity to deliver services.

REQUIRED: master’s degree in economics, public policy, or closely related field that included coursework in microeconomics, econometrics, and development economics; at least five years’ relevant work experience that includes at least one year working in a developing country; successful track record of managing junior staff; comfort learning computer applications, including Salesforce; detail-orientation; strong writing and strategic thinking skills; understanding of and ability to communicate policy lessons from technical academic research in ways that policymakers and practitioners understand; ability to handle multiple projects at once with little supervision, meet deadlines, and effectively manage time as well as others; and self-motivation. Must enjoy working in teams and managing others. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about international development policy and the rigorous research that informs it.
