Duties: The Coach/Conductor will coach students privately and help with role preparationin a wide range of repertoire and styles from Baroque to Contemporary opera. Offercourses across disciplines at U-M including, but not limited to a class on vocal styles,ornamentation, art of recitative, audition repertoire and role preparation. Conduct onemain stage opera and/or opera workshop presentation per year (depending upon the needsof the voice department). Work with student collaborative pianists who provide coachingfor opera productions and opera workshop classes. Work successfully with studentinstrumental ensembles accompanying opera performances and provide a positive learningenvironment in both rehearsal and performance. Contribute to the musical direction,repertoire selection and casting of SMTD opera performance and production incollaboration with opera directors, voice department, conducting department andUniversity Productions. A candidate’s area of additional expertise and interest including thehumanities, linguistics, literature, art or others are welcome.

We seek an experienced Coach/Conductor who is interested in contributing to a vibrant vocal arts program dedicated to the overall development of the classical vocalist in the 21st century.
Required: Professional opera house experience. Experience in coaching and conducting in a wide range of repertoire from the Baroque to Contemporary opera. Excellent piano skills. Clear understanding of the singing voice. Command of diction and comprehension in Italian, French, German and English.
Desired: Additional language proficiency
