The Research Assistant will contribute to the research effort on developing technologies for the production of therapeutic quantities of human pluripotent stem cells and cardiomyocytes. You will be responsible for performing experiments, collecting results and data for publication. You will maintain cell cultures in monolayer and suspension; as well as learn and perform assays applicable for hPSC pluripotency maintenance and differentiation to cardiomyocytes, depending on research project and as needed. For appointment at HEW 6 you will also be responsible for maintaining operation of stirred tank bioreactors and assisting in the writing and implementation of standard operating procedures.
Applicants should have a Bachelor degree in a relevant area of Science or Bioengineering; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. You will have experience and/or training in the relevant areas of cell biology techniques and/or mammalian cell culture as well as experience in cell characterisation, specifically flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and quantitative PCR. In addition, for appointment at HEW 6 you will have experience with the handling and operation of bioreactors (0.5-3L) and significant experience with gene and protein expression studies. The preferred candidate will have excellent time management, organisational and communication skills with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within the research group.

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for 12 months at HEW Level 5 or 6. Appointment level will be dependent on qualifications, skills and experience. The remuneration package will be in the range $66,347 - $74,098 p.a. (HEW 5) or $75,957 - $83,441 (HEW 6), plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%. Total package will be in the range $77,626- $88,652 p.a. (HEW 5) or $88,869 - $97,626 p.a (HEW 6). Flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
