About the role:

The Grants Team in the Research Office oversees the development and administration of all competitive research grant funding, including Australian Research Council (ARC), National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Cooperative Research Centres, ARC Centres of Excellence and other local and international schemes. The team works with researchers across all campuses of the University to provide advisory and administrative support through the entire life-cycle of a grant.

The Senior Grants Advisor is responsible for the development, submission and administration of Health and Medical Category 1 grant schemes, including National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grant schemes. The position will lead the management of the complete grant life-cycle (from pre-award inquiry and development to post-award project closure) across both the colleges for Category 1 Health and Medical grants.

Responsibilities will include:

The primary function of this role is to provide high level advice and guidance for all Health and Medical Category 1 grants on whole of life-cycle research grant management services (development, submission, at award services, reporting and closure) across both La Trobe University Colleges. You will be required to develop a pipeline for Category 1 Health and Medical grants across the two Colleges and coordinate the effective implementation of an Expression of Interest process for NHMRC schemes.

The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert for NHMRC grant development, submission and post-award process and provide expertise and guidance to other members of the grants team. They will be instrumental in maintaining and further developing relationships with key partners such as the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI).

Skills and Experience:

To be considered for this role, you will have a PhD or relevant degree with extensive professional experience or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience and demonstrated success in assisting researchers to obtain and manage competitive grant funding and managing grants for the entire life-cycle. You will be knowledgeable and experienced with Category 1 schemes and have a sound working knowledge of public and private research funding trends within Australia and internationally.

You will possess strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and be apt in your ability to organise your work effectively to deliver outputs in a timely manner.
