Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position starting on 1st January 2019 (or soon thereafter if a later start is required by the successful applicant) to develop simulation models and optimisation routines for the enhancement of the performance of electric powertrains for automotive traction.

The post is part of a collaborative project that aims to develop new powertrain components and controllers for next generation electric vehicles. A budget for travel and other expenses will be provided, and there will be several opportunities to attend related conferences. The research will be carried out with collaborators of several industrial and academic institutions. The project outcomes will be evaluated on state-of-the-art vehicle demonstrators.

The successful candidate must have a strong background in electrical engineering and power electronics, and should be a holder of a PhD degree in electrical engineering. Also, expertise in the following areas is highly desirable:

The appointee will join Surrey’s Centre for Automotive Engineering of the Mechanical Engineering Sciences Department, which has research interests in a wide range of topics, including active vehicle dynamics, tyre dynamics, electric powertrains, vehicle aerodynamics and novel transmission systems for electric and hybrid electric vehicles.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£31,302) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate. Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£32,236).
