The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AiPT) at Aston University is seeking to appoint two part-time Project Managers to undertake key project management responsibilities for the European Innovative Training Networks REAL-NET (1 position; 0.5 FTE) and MOCCA (1 position; 0.5 FTE). Both projects are funded by the European Commission (EC) Horizon 2020 programme and are part of the Marie Curie Sklodowsca Actions. Both positions present an opportunity to become a member of the dynamic and experienced EC project management team at AiPT, an institute within Aston University with a long-standing track-record of successful implementation of EC-funded collaborative research projects and training networks. Successful appointees will have the opportunity to integrate fully and beyond their immediate project responsibilities into the AiPT Project Management team and take on additional responsibilities, such as contributing to the proposal writing of new funding applications.

Background of the projects

Both REAL-NET and MOCCA are European Industrial Doctorates (EIDs) and have 6 and 8 partners across several European countries respectively.  The post holder will be overall responsible for the project coordination, management and contractual obligations and provide top-level project management services to the REAL-NET and MOCCA projects, ensuring that the objectives, time-scales and anticipated deliverables are met, and that the overall budget is effectively monitored and adhered to. The post holder will be providing general support to the REAL-NET Project Coordinator (Prof. Sergei K. Turitsyn) and MOCCA Project Coordinator (Dr Sergey Sergeyev), assisting the project partners, maintaining the project records and web site, reporting to funders and organising meetings and events from the Kick-off stage until project closure.

Both appointments are funded for 12 months in the first instance, with the potential to continue for a further 3 years (4 years in total) upon satisfactory completion of the initial 12 months.

The AIPT (http://www.aston.ac.uk/eas/research/groups/photonics/) pursues a diverse range of device-and-system-level topics at the leading edge of technology. The key research areas include high-speed optical transmission and processing, in fibre-based optical devices and components, nonlinear photonics, fibre optic sensors and various industrial applications of photonics across sectors.

Applicants should be available to start their new role in early January 2019 or shortly thereafter.
