Applications are invited for appointments as non-tenure track Assistant Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Buddhist Counselling in the Centre of Buddhist Studies (Ref.: 492411), to commence on September 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

The Centre promotes innovative thinking and new horizons for Buddhist studies and research. Information about the Centre can be obtained at http://www.buddhism.hku.hk.

For Assistant Professor position: Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree related to Buddhist Counselling such as clinical psychology, counselling psychology, social work, or Buddhist Chaplaincy.  They should have at least three years' teaching experience in a recognized tertiary institution; experiences in teaching courses related to Buddhist counselling, Buddhist psychology, or contemplative studies; a track record of publications and presentations on Buddhist counselling, Buddhist psychology, or a related field; and at least three years of clinical experiences as a qualified health or mental health professional.  Those with professional licences or registration with government boards, experiences in providing clinical supervision, and experiences in program administration are preferred. The appointees will be required to teach courses in Buddhist counselling, supervise research and counselling work of postgraduate students, contribute actively to research, and undertake administrative responsibilities.

For Senior Lecturer/Lecturer positions: Applicants should have an M.Phil. degree or above related to Buddhist Counselling such as clinical psychology, counselling psychology, social work or Buddhist Chaplaincy, or equivalent teaching experience (normally 5 years' post-qualification experience at tertiary level) related to Buddhist counselling, Buddhist psychology, or contemplative studies; and at least three years of clinical experiences as a qualified health or mental health professional.  Those with professional licences or registration with government boards, experiences in providing clinical supervision, and experiences in program administration are preferred. The appointees will be required to teach courses in Buddhist counselling, and undertake administrative responsibilities.

A highly competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  For Assistant Professor and Senior Lecturer, housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
