Applications are invited for appointment as tenure-track Professor in Teacher Education - English Language Education in the Faculty of Education (Ref.: 492438), to commence on September 1, 2019, on a three-year fixed-term basis with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract. Exceptionally outstanding candidate may be considered for appointment on tenure terms.
The Division of English Language Education is seeking to appoint an outstanding scholar and curriculum leader in teacher education, specialising in English as a Second Language or TESOL for mainstream primary and secondary school contexts, including initial teacher education and continuing professional development. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of teacher educators and researchers to advance the Faculty’s mission of providing world-class, cutting-edge teacher education for Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree, a professional teaching qualification in the relevant discipline, and substantial years of experience in language teacher education for school contexts, school-university partnership, and academic and curricular leadership in teacher education. They should have strong academic credentials, outstanding academic leadership capabilities, extensive experience in conducting externally funded research, and a distinguished record of scholarship. Knowledge of the local context would be an advantage. Applicants whose scholarship and teaching emphasise education for equity and social justice, participatory and practitioner research, and/or engaged scholarship are most welcome.
The appointee will be at the forefront of the teacher education field, playing an academic leadership role in furthering the Division’s and Faculty’s research, teaching and community engagement agendas. He/She will pursue strategic opportunities in teacher education research, initial teacher education programmes, school-university partnerships and other educational partnerships in Hong Kong and internationally. He/She will contribute to a vibrant research and teaching culture in the Division and in the Faculty through mentorship of colleagues and collaborative research projects; contribute to teaching and curriculum development in areas related to his/her expertise; and supervise Doctoral and Master’s degree students.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as annual leave and medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
