The University is looking to appoint a new University Secretary, reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, and working closely with the Chair of Council and the Council itself. As Clerk to the Council, the University Secretary will lead on all governance matters, as a trusted advisor to both the Chair and the Vice-Chancellor, providing a key link between the non-executive and executive functions. He or she will ensure the efficient and smooth operation of the University Council, providing support and guidance to both the Chair and the Committees of Council. In addition, he or she will co-ordinate executive services for compliance, risk and legal and governance on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor.

The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of the current external HE landscape and best practice in HE governance and legal issues, be able to demonstrate a track record of providing high level strategic advice to a range of key stakeholders in an organisation of comparable scale and complexity. He or she will have the networking and organisational skills to manage and advise on a wide range of governance matters. We are seeking an individual with outstanding communication skills, excellent judgment and the ability to maintain and develop productive relationships with the Council and Executive Board equally.
