The Student Recruitment and Widening Participation team is responsible for ensuring that the University can identify and recruit students of outstanding achievement and potential from all educational backgrounds and encouraging progression into higher education more generally, particularly within its local communities. This work entails raising awareness of the benefits of the University of Manchester and higher education among school pupils, further education students, colleges and other educational bodies.

With previous experience of developing and delivering educational initiatives, the post requires an in-depth knowledge and passion for issues surrounding the progression of learners into Higher Education. With the ability to work on your own initiative and prioritise a varied workload, you will have a flexible and positive approach to work with the ability to enthuse and motivate others. You will foster effective relationships with widening participation, recruitment and admissions staff across the University as well as with external stakeholders including prospective students, teachers and advisors, parents and carers. The post requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

This post is a new Officer post in the team, managing the University’s engagement with and commitment to the Greater Manchester Higher partnership and successful the delivery of Greater Manchester’s National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) currently funded by the Office for Students until July 2019.

The National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) brings together 29 partnerships of universities, colleges and other local partners to deliver outreach programmes to young people aged 13-18. Greater Manchester Higher is delivering the NCOP in Greater Manchester. The work of GMH (and all NCOP consortia across the UK) focuses on local areas where higher education participation is lower than might be expected given the GCSE results of the young people who live there.

The post holder would project manage all the work the University delivers under GMH, including line management of other staff working on GMH, and all financial and evaluation reporting requirements. As well as coordinating the delivery of the project here at The University of Manchester, the post holder will also work closely with and foster effective working relationships with: the GMH central team, based at Manchester Metropolitan University, staff in the five GMH regional hubs and outreach staff based in higher education institutions and further education colleges across Greater Manchester.

The post holder will be responsible for the management, development and delivery of a range of impartial Higher Education information, advice and guidance activities including both on campus and in school activities. Additional activities delivered through GMH, which the post holder would manage include curriculum enrichment, industry insight and GE subject taster sessions.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the black and minority ethnic (BME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
