Are you an experienced contemporary jewellery & metal designer looking to take the next step into teaching and research? 

We are looking for an exceptional individual, who can bring their energy, expertise and interest in furthering the discipline through research, to join us as a 1.0 FTE Lecturer within our Design & Craft Academic Group. An accomplished practitioner in your field, you will able to demonstrate a clear knowledge of studio practice and an understanding and appreciation of the cultural and critical issues surrounding Jewellery/ Silversmithing and or Metal Design.

Our teaching philosophy places an emphasis on play, experimentation and material exploration synthesising traditional techniques and new and emerging technologies to create fresh aesthetics and extend the boundary of the discipline. Our research is also highly regarded and current projects include recovering precious metals from electronic waste, and developing wearable technologies with communities in India. 

Over the next few years we are looking to continue in this vein whilst also enhancing our connections with local jewellery practitioners as well as building links with local community groups. 

Your priorities will include:

  • Module delivery and assessment
  • Exploration and development of cross-disciplinary/ interdisciplinary initiatives
  • Supporting initiatives such as employability and career development
  • Programme recruitment
  • Developing and participating in outstanding research to further the discipline 
  • Attaining external funding to support research activity

Who we’re looking for:

  • An established contemporary jewellery & metal designer 
  • You will have a good understanding of student learning needs and the ability to plan challenging and innovative learning activities at UG and PG level.
  • You will have the ability to demonstrate expertise in at least one or more of the following: Silversmithing, 3D CAD and digital fabrication, precious and non-precious materials, experience of working with creative technology and/or smart materials
  • Ability to engage in scholarly activities and develop teaching, learning and research in the context of your own practice.
