The Stanford School of Medicine is looking for a developer to join its Research IT team (https://researchit.stanford.edu) in the Office of Information Resources & Technology developing tools and services in support of the research data management user community. The software solutions you create will be used daily by patients, doctors, and researchers at Stanford and other institutions across the country.

Project information:

This fall, Stanford Medicine will join with Apple in an innovative research study using data from Apple Watch to identify irregular heart rhythms, including those from potentially serious heart conditions like atrial fibrillation. For further information, please see:

This is a full time benefit eligible position.

Desired Skills / Qualifications:

  • Highly proficient in web and server languages, including PHP, JavaScript, DHTML, CSS, Ajax, REST
  • Capable data modeler and highly proficient ANSI SQL programmer; MySql/Postgres/Oracle experience a plus
  • Skilled in all phases of software lifecycle (requirements gathering, design, implementing, testing, production support)
  • Comfortable working everywhere in the stack (databases, server-side, client-side, user experience)
  • Prior working experience in Java
  • Prior working experience with mobile, including Cordova, iOS/Swift, or Android/java development

Duties include: 

  • Function independently as the software development lead on a wide array of both internal and customer projects, including but not limited to developing service APIs, custom modules, patient facing portals, and workflow engines.
  • Interact with end-users to gather and synthesize their project requirements
  • Document both code and operational deployments, seeking review and feedback from other team members
  • Provide leadership to other members, fostering skill development and on-the-job learning
  • Handle escalation of complex customer support tickets

  • Highly competent in collaborative code development and workflow (GIT/code review/deployment)
  • Prior working experience in Java

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): 

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.
  • Proficiency with application design and data modeling.
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects.
  • Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
  • Knowledge of application domain.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: 

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand.
  • Rarely use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

May work extended hours, evening and weekends.

This position currently works in our Porter Drive office.   We anticipate that this position will move to the new Stanford Redwood City campus in late May to late June 2019.
