The School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and skilled individual as Engineering Manager.

You will be responsible for managing the School’s Mechanical Workshop, including its staff team, budget, equipment and space. Through ongoing discussion with the School’s Technical Services Manager and relevant stakeholders, you will devise strategies to ensure that the current and future needs of the School for mechanical workshop services to support both its teaching and research activities are fully met.

You will act as a single point of entry into the workshop for incoming jobs, determining the specific requirements associated with a particular task and assigning a suitable pathway for completion. You will be responsible for organising work channels and managing the throughput of work, including the procurement of materials in order to ensure that the facility is responsive to meet the changing needs of users and is run to the optimum standard.

You will be qualified to at least HNC/HND level (or equivalent) in an appropriate engineering discipline, with a demonstrable track record of post-qualification experience and expertise in a relevant technical area. You will be self-motivated, well organised and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines in a busy environment, and will have the ability to communicate effectively with and meet the needs of the School’s diverse population of students and staff in a pleasant, helpful and efficient manner. You will also have proven experience in successful supervision and motivation of staff.
