Fixed Term 24 Months 

An exciting opportunity for a Formulation Scientist/Technologist has become available to work full time on a 24 month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP). The aim of the project is to develop novel natural product bio stimulant formulations for application in environmental odour, dust suppression and waste treatment sector at Odour and Dust Solutions Ltd, a small successful family business based in North Ayrshire, Scotland.

The successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to register free of charge for a Higher Degree (Masters or Ph.D.), receive training in Chartered Management Institute (level 5), work with senior company management to realise benefits to the business and apply their degree and lead their own project in a business environment.

Odour & Dust Solutions Ltd (ODS) provides odour control and dust control solutions throughout the UK. Odour and Dust Control products are used in a number of sectors including the recycling, landfill, composting, waste water treatment, quarrying and demolition industries where they have operated for over 10 years.

The successful candidate must possess:
Minimum of 2:1 or equivalent BSc/BEng in Chemical/Biochemical Sciences and a relevant MSc in Chemical/ Biochemical Science and/or equivalent research and development experience.

Application requirements: 

Knowledge and/or experience is required in some of the following:

  • Experienced in chemical analysis and formulation with some experience in natural product isolation and willingness to explore aspects of microbial research
  • Industry experience or product development with industry

Essential skills we require as a minimum: 

  • Expected to have good chemical/biochemical science knowledge and understanding
  • Skilled in analytical chemistry techniques such as HPLC, NMR, GCMS and LCMS
  • Numerical understanding of experimental design, process properties and data significance, ability to understand and process data; apply process models and interpretation.
  • Well-developed project management and research organisational skills
  • Skilled in analytical chemistry techniques such as HPLC, NMR, GCMS, and LCMS
  • Experience of the extraction and analysis of volatile organic compounds and the ability to design experimental protocols is desirable
