The circadian (24 hour) clock regulates the activity of regulatory T cells (Tregs), an immunosuppressive leukocyte population that play a protective role in arthritis biology. This MRC funded 3 year project will explore these cells as the driver for daily fluctuations in inflammatory status, and the role of the gut microbiome. The work will include both in vivo and in vitro elements, utilising a combination of exciting approaches including: mouse models of arthritis; use of transgenic and germ-free animals; flow cytometric profiling of immune cells; RNA Seq; metabolomic analysis of murine samples; and 16S sequencing of the gut microbiome.

We are looking for an exceptional and motivated early career scientist to take initiatives in the planning of research and provide significant input to the scientific direction of the project. You should have (or expect to have) a PhD in an appropriate field, a good publication record appropriate to your level, experience of immunological techniques and knowledge of animal models of chronic inflammation.

You will be based in the AV Hill building, on the main University campus, within the Centre for Biological Timing (www.bmh.manchester.ac.uk/research/domains/cardiovascular-endocrine-metab...), and the Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology (www.bmh.manchester.ac.uk/research/domains/infection-immunity-inflammatio...), which together offer a superb research environment.
