This 1 year part time research associate that is funded via support from the University of Manchester CHERIL scheme and the research will be conducted within the School of Chemical Engineering & Analytical Science and the School of Chemistry at The University of Manchester. This post is part of a project involving the University of Manchester to develop an understanding of student learning and preparedness in teaching practical classes.

Practical classes are a major part of student learning and help them associate theory with the real world; they also provide the opportunity for students to develop additional skills associated with employability. Making sure students are successful can be difficult, therefore this project aims to evaluate the current laboratory prevision and use this evaluation to create recommendations/guidelines for best practice; focused on three research questions, how do students engage with the existing pre-laboratory options, what general learning outcomes and skills can practical work provide, and how can these learning outcomes and skills be assessed?

This project will involve an advisory board of both senior members of the university and external educational developers.
