Job description

The University of Central Lancashire is seeking to appoint a Mental Health Advisor to work with our established Mental Health Team; ensuring our students have access to high-quality mental health provision. The successful applicant will be required to operate as part of a team, working across the full spectrum of mental health difficulties; ensuring students obtain appropriate treatment, support & adjustments to enable them to successfully complete their studies.

Joining our friendly team within Student Support and Wellbeing, the successful applicant will have the ability to establish relationships with people from both clinical and non -clinical backgrounds and communicate effectively showing good understanding of diversity and inclusion issues relating to mental health.

The successful applicant will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) with a relevant professional qualification in the field of mental health and must be approved in their field i.e valid NMC, BACP and/or UKSP, GSCC approved. Significant experience of managing caseloads, working to a standard mental health assessment and maintaining productive relationships with other UCLan teams e.g. Accommodation, Student Support and external organisations such as the Lancashire Care Trust.

Excellent prioritisation, time management and knowledge of current mental health legislation/policy/best practice including the stepped care model is essential. The post holder will have post qualification experience working with individuals experiencing mental health difficulties including assessment of clients with complex needs, risk assessment and high risk/crisis management. Emotional resilience to work calmly under pressure is essential and the successful applicants will have the ability to recognise their own limitations and seek additional support where necessary.
