About the Job

The Allergy and Cancer Immunology Laboratory is focused on 1) finding ways to stop allergic inflammation developing at barrier surfaces including the airway and skin, and 2) finding novel ways to use the power of allergic responses to kill cancer cells.

As Research Assistant, you will contribute to grant-funded research under the broad direction of the Head, Allergy and Cancer Immunology Laboratory to achieve defined objectives and test stated hypotheses. The project involves use of modern immunological techniques including high parameter flow cytometry, single cell RNA-sequencing and fluorescence microscopy to analyse inflammation in the lungs and skin. You will use mouse models of airway and skin inflammation, and primary human airway tissue to identify novel mechanisms driving airway inflammation.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this opportunity, you will have an Honours degree in Immunology, Genetics, Biochemistry or a related discipline along with experience with mouse models of disease and an understanding of the mammalian immune system. You will have experience with laboratory techniques such as tissue culture, histology, purification and handling of RNA/DNA, flow cytometry, gene transfection/cloning.

You will also be competent in recording, analysing, presenting and disseminating research to stakeholders including the preparation of papers for high quality publications or posters for conference presentations.
