SENIOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANTLaboratory for Information Decision Systems (LIDS) (part-time, 30 hrs/wk.), to perform complex and diverse financial duties, act as a senior-level financial support professional, and serve as a resource for other assistants in the area. Will provide financial and proposal development support for the administrative officer (AO); work closely with PIs on preparing grant proposal submissions, including budget creation, compiling other proposal documents, and monitoring expenses for compliance with sponsor guidelines and approved budgets; reconcile accounts and monitor activity in cost objects; perform account maintenance; review and approve travel expense reports, requisitions, RFPs, and invoices; verify credit card charges; create journal vouchers, requisitions, RFPs, and guest travel expense reports as needed; initiate contact with and respond to requests from internal and external customers; research discrepancies and use discretion to solve problems; interact with multiple MIT central offices, e.g., Travel, Accounts Payable, and Procurement; recommend process improvements to the AO; and perform other duties as requested. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: at least five years' accounting or finance experience, at least one of which is directly related; fluency with Excel; excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and accounting skills; ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and follow through; attention to detail; sound judgment; and ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of SAP, Cognos, and FileMaker preferred; as is an associate’s degree and experience in university accounting (research administration). MIT experience desired, including experience with Concur, Atlas, and other MIT systems.  Job #16724-6
