Executive Secretary

The Royal Irish Academy (Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann) is a publicly funded institution established for the promotion of learning in the sciences and humanities throughout Ireland. The Academy was founded by Royal Charter in 1785. The Academy is an independent all-island forum that connects the world of academia with the public and private sectors to address issues of mutual interest, through our outreach events and research projects. Drawing on our Member’s expertise, we make a significant contribution to public debate and public policy formation on issues in science, technology and culture. The Academy leads important national research projects, particularly in areas relating to Ireland and its heritage. In addition, the Academy represents the world of Irish learning internationally, maintains and enhances a unique globally-recognised library and is a leading academic publisher.

The Role
Reporting to the Council via the President, the Executive Secretary is responsible for providing leadership, in collaboration with the President, Officers and Council, to achieve the Academy’s goals as set out in its mission statement. Supporting the development, and coordinating the execution, of the Academy’s long-term strategy with a view to fostering high quality scholarship and informing public debate. Overseeing the management of each department and project, while implementing the Academy’s long and short-term plans and ensuring that there are appropriate internal controls for compliance with the corporate governance code.
