Responsibilities*

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH EPIDEMIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The primary purpose of this position is to assist with two NIH-funded research studies, working under the direction and supervision of School of Public Health faculty and senior research staff. These projects are related to the dengue virus transmission, and to the development of the gut microbiome. Both projects are conducted in rural, coastal Ecuador.

The Research Assistant is responsible for working with UM faculty and staff to develop study instruments such as protocols, electronic surveys, and health education materials. They will maintain study records and study IRB approvals; assist the study database manager in developing scripts to clean and organize study data as it is collected; maintain an inventory of research study supplies and track study expenses. The research assistant will also travel to the study field site several times per year to coordinate with the Ecuadorian field team to assist in training study team members and to maintain quality control.

DURATION: Approximately January 2019 through December, 2019

HOURS: 24-32hrs/week

PAY RATE: $20 per hour

Required Qualifications*

The successful candidate will have completed an MPH or equivalent degree or will have significant prior global health research experience. They will have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to communicate in Spanish at an intermediate or advanced level. Basic computing skills such as email and Microsoft Office are necessary, and familiarity with SAS, STATA or R statistical analysis software is strongly preferred. Prior experience with Access, SQL, Open Data Kit (ODK) or R would be beneficial but is not required. Prior international experience and willingness is travel is required.
