The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology of different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff. The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at

The Centre for Eating Disorders Innovation (CEDI) at MEB was established under the auspices of the Swedish Research Council. We are dedicated to applying novel and emerging methodologies and technologies to elucidate causal mechanisms underlying eating disorders.

This research program aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of genetic and environmental factors that contribute to eating disorders. There are several ongoing studies related to eating disorders including 1) an in-depth study of identical twins who are discordant for anorexia nervosa, 2) a longitudinal study of severe and enduring anorexia nervosa, and 3) a large-scale study of bulimia nervosa and BED. The post-doctoral fellow should have a firm grounding in the psychology of eating disorders and be interested in contributing to an interdisciplinary group.

Applicants should have a PhD in psychology or related disciplines and have experience working and doing research with individuals with eating disorders. The applicant should be a licensed psychologist. The applicant should be familiar with eating disorders in specific and psychiatric illnesses in general. Some knowledge of complex trait genomics is desirable. Fluency in Swedish is a necessity for patient interaction and a track record in writing scientific publications in English is preferred.

The applicant should be highly collegial, experienced in working in “team science” contexts, possess exceptional communication and organizational skills, know how to successfully multitask, and should be able to describe past examples of having developed structured approaches to solving unanticipated and complex problems.

Individuals eligible to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher should have completed their PhD studies within the last three years. Individuals who graduated earlier could be considered under special circumstances.

Application process

  • An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work

  • A summary of experience in psychology research in general
  • Verification of licensure in psychology
  • Verification from the thesis defence committee or the equivalent (only if the thesis defence is scheduled within three months after the application deadline)
