This role will support Maintenance Services Unit in ensuring that all the requirements of current and future legislation are being fully met and to encourage excellence in all aspects of CDM/health and safety management for all staff in the provision of day to day maintenance activities and project procurement and delivery, whilst receiving professional advice and direction from the Principal Estates and Facilities Health and Safety Manager and collaborate closely with the Estates Safety Office to demonstration that all CDM/health and safety arrangements are being implemented.
You will assist in the compilation, implementation, updating and monitoring of health and safety management standards, MSU plans, risk assessments, pre-construction information, construction phase plans and health and safety files related to MSU and its projects. You will be expected to work with colleagues, consultants and contractors and oversee compliance with relevant regulations and in particular the Construction (Design and Management) regulations 2015 and other health and safety related legislation and guidance.
You will assist, where required in evaluating the competency of key duty holders under CDM, including Principal Designers/Designers, Principal Contractors/Contractors and key suppliers through the PQQ and ITT processes for procurement of services contracts.
To develop plans and initiatives to promote continuous H&S/CDM improvements within the Unit / Directorate and support the successful implementation for daily activities / projects. Whilst working with the Maintenance Services Unit Manager and the Principal Estates Health & Safety Manager on the interpretation and application of University/Estates/MSU health and safety strategy and policy with a specific emphasis on maintenance.
To ensure that procedures for accident, incident reporting and investigation are applied correctly and undertaken in an appropriate and timely manner by the required person(s) and that all relevant facts, outputs and recommendations are published and recorded.
You will possess NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate or an equivalent Level 3 H&S qualification, together with TechIOSH Professional Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health. You will possess significant commercial vocational experience in providing both general and construction related health and safety advice acting in the role of the competent person appointed under Regulation 7 of The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
Significant experience of providing health and safety advice in a large organization with diverse operational activities, particularly relating to construction safety and maintenance activities, a professional/academic qualification to degree level in a health and safety related subject and graduate member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (GradIOSH) are desirable.
