The Platforms team within IT Services is seeking to recruit a Linux Senior Systems Administrator in the Services and Operations team. This role has responsibility for the development, support and maintenance of the University’s mission critical IT infrastructure. This role will have responsibility for Network/Directory Services, including input into architecture, strategy, design and implementation.

This would suit a critical thinker that is motivated and enthusiastic about working in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

It is critical that you understand the concepts and problems of enterprise level IT infrastructure and services, large scale platforms and remote administration, working with many levels of complexity. Ideally you should possess an ability to innovate solutions for the benefit of the organisation as a whole.

This role will entail producing roadmaps, providing input into strategic decisions affecting Network/Directory Services, taking a full technical lead role for the defined areas of expertise and ensuring that you stay ahead of industry trends, spot opportunities to add value to the University and make recommendations for architectural and design changes.
You must have demonstrable experience and knowledge of administering Linux or Unix systems. You should have experience of scalable and resilient systems having managed multiple servers in a complex environment.

You must be committed to delivering an excellent level of customer service for staff and students while also meeting the organisation's strategic goals and financial objectives.

Essential skills and experience would include:

  • Degree relevant to IT Services or relevant professional experience
  • Linux Administration within an enterprise environment
  • DNS (authoritative & recursive)
  • DHCP

Desired skills and experience would include:

  • 802.1X/RADIUS authentication
  • Email server management (Exim)
  • Configuration management (Puppet/Git preferred)
  • MySQL/MariaDB
  • Galera clusters
  • LDAP
  • MS Active Directory
  • Solaris
  • ITILv3 Foundation Diploma
