The School of Art and Design, founded in 1843 and part of the College of Art, Architecture, Design and Humanities, is one of the UK’s most well-established, renowned and respected creative institutions. Offering the experience of an art school whilst providing all the opportunities and support of a large university. Its subjects are ranked from 8th to 4th in the UK for Art and Design.
Its mission is to design impactful research that will shape society, to be at the forefront of Art and Design education and to work in productive partnership with industry and policy makers.
The School has a student population of 3,700, encompassing Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral levels, and 187 staff members organised into four departments: Fashion, Textiles and Knit; Visual Communications; Fashion Management, Marketing and Communication and Visual Arts.
Building upon its national and international reputation and excellence in student outcomes, the School is developing its curriculum, spaces and resources to ensure that its graduates continue to lead in a world where design thinking and the creative industries are increasingly important and prominent.
The School of Art and Design seeks to appoint a Deputy Dean to lead and develop the student academic experience for the School. S/he will be an experienced leader with a passion for innovative pedagogy, excellent student experience and quality. They will understand and know how to maximise the relationship between an Art and Design School’s resources and its student outcomes.
The successful appointee will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to engage across the broad portfolio of the School. They will line manage Learning & Teaching, Quality and Resources in collaboration with the Heads of Department.
With a good knowledge of Art and Design and of higher education pedagogies, s/he will be qualified, ideally, to doctoral level or have a relevant professional qualification. A Senior Fellow of a Higher Education Academy (or ready to achieve this within 12 months of appointment), s/he will have demonstrable experience of working in a senior role and leading change in higher education.
Ensuring Key Performance Indicators are met, the Deputy Dean will safeguard the student experience, manage School resources, provide leadership and mentorship to staff members and continue to build the strong profile of the School both nationally and internationally.
Salary: £77,455 to £83,735 p.a. pro rata
