Job Summary

HITS Hosting Services team is responsible for the implementation and management of over a 1100+ Linux/AIX virtual & physical hosts that span across two data centers. These servers support business, research, and critical clinical applications requiring up times approaching a 99.999%. 80% of our host implementations are virtualized. We use both IBM PowerVM and VMware to support the virtual host. Our standard high availability configuration consists of using IBM PowerHA or SuSE clustering to create stretched clusters between data centers.

In addition, we are responsible for multiple strategic initiatives; including datacenter consolidation; expanded service offering for research compute and major enhancements to our automation/configuration management and orchestration strategies. We are seeking an individual with a background in Linux (SuSE or RHEL) and/or AIX System Administration, extensive experience supporting research computing in a large environment, with a demonstrated ability to learn new software and to understand technical information.

Responsibilities*

Propose, design, develop, deliver, and support Linux / AIX Server infrastructure technology solutions at enterprise level to support the business and research needs of Michigan Medicine. Keep current with the latest server hardware and software technology and evaluate technologies as needed. Work closely with research customers to deploy new systems, and support and maintain current systems, and make recommendations on future development and capacity planning.

Focus on Data Center consolidation efforts and Data Center device inventory management. Work with Michigan Medicine departments to develop and execute the best migration plans to migrate their clinical, research, and education servers into consolidated Data Centers.

Maintain operation of Linux / AIX environment by enforcing security measures, developing and deploying standardized server builds, and managing new technologies and resolving any problems involved in system integration.

Develop and write procedures for installation, security, use, support, and recovery.

Required Qualifications*

Senior Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in managing and supporting AIX or Linux systems in an enterprise environment
  • Expert Level knowledge of: (SLES 12 or RHEL 7 or AIX 7.x)
  • Expert Level knowledge of: (SLES 12 or RHEL 7 or AIX 7.x)
  • Experience in deploying and troubleshooting high performance Linux or AIX or systems
  • Experience with IBM HMC/NIM or Linux autoyast and kickstart build processes
  • Advanced scripting skills in ksh/Bash or python
  • Hands-on experience with performance tuning and analysis on Intel/AMD based platforms
  • Strong security awareness
  • Experience with networking technologies, particularly as they pertain to managing AIX or Linux systems and applications running on these systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels within the organization
  • Experience leading projects and teams
  • Willing to participate in on-call rotation.
  • Intermediate Position Requirements:

Desired Qualifications*

  • 7+ years’ experience in managing and supporting large environment with AIX or SuSE or RHEL Linux Enterprise Servers
  • Some experience installing, configuring, managing Ansible, Ansible Tower, RunDeck Pro, and GitLab
  • Experience with SuSE clustering and high-availability solutions on Linux
  • Experience with IBM P-series servers and HP and Cisco blade servers and management tools
  • Experience with Virtual server environments and configuring systems for maximum performance and operating flexibility
  • Experience managing Linux and AIX patch management solutions in a large environment
  • Working experience / knowledge with High computing cluster management
  • Experience with research compute infrastructure configuration with GPU for capacity/performance needs
  • Experience installing, maintaining and supporting Linux and AIX systems in a SAN environment
  • Proven technical leader with solid system administration skills, and the ability to maintain a positive attitude while working in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Relevant industry certifications
  • Knowledge or working experience with ITIL concepts
