The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund approved in July 2018 the establishment of the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City at UM in October of the same year. Under the leadership of the new Rector, the State Key Laboratory aims to undertake research in cutting-edge theory and key technologies on smart city and the Internet of Things, and apply the relevant research output to serve the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. To this end, the Section of Urban Public Safety and Disaster Prevention of the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City and the Faculty of Science and Technology of UM invite applications for both Position (a) Chair/Distinguished Professor (Ref. No.: FST/CD/08A/2018) and Position (b) Full/Associate/Assistant Professor (Ref. No.: FST/AR/08A/2018) in the following disciplines: 

  • Structural Health Monitoring for Civil Engineering Infrastructures
  • Health Monitoring for Electromechanical Systems
  • Disaster (Typhoon, Flooding, Fire, etc.)
  • System Identification and Engineering Reliability Analysis

Faculty of Science and Technology (FST)
FST aims to provide programmes for undergraduate and graduate education with quality reaching international standard. It strives to become a research active unit advancing the knowledge of engineering and science, and serves the community and industry as an agent of technological innovation and educational advancement. For Position (a)
Candidates should have considerable experience in academic development planning, curriculum design and research development, and strive to pursue excellence in teaching, research and service with outstanding academic leadership skills for research and development.

For Positions (a) & (b)
1. A PhD degree in Science, Engineering, or related disciplines;
2. A distinguished record of internationally-recognized research and scholarship;
3. Demonstrable competence in communication; and
4. English is the working language, while knowledge in Chinese/Portuguese will be an advantage.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in January 2019 or August 2019 the latest.

Position and Remuneration
Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification, current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
