This position is for a full-time inpatient psychiatric social worker; job hours for this position are currently Sunday - Thursday or Tuesday - Saturday.
Participate as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team providing psychiatric, acute care for adult hospitalized patients. Social workers complete a psycho-social assessment on every patient, meet with families and provide psychoeducation and help with aftercare, provide group therapy for in-patients, conduct individual meetings with patients around family concerns and provide help with concrete services and discharge planning. Social workers provide supervision to social work interns and provide education for all trainees on unit. Social workers provide help with legal issues (guardianship, commitment process). Applicant must have excellent skills at communication and teamwork.
Master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education is necessary. (LMSW) to practice clinical social work in the State of Michigan is required in addition to clinical practice concentration and field practicum or recent work experience in health care agency or hospital. Some experience in professional social work is necessary.
Desired applicants would have two years of experience working on a psychiatric unit and/or psychiatric emergency services, possess knowledge about psychiatric diagnoses and treatments and have experience working with families. Applicant ideally will have some training in evidence-based therapies such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification.
Under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
