Job Summary

The Taubman College Accounting/Specialist will provide general accounting and office management support to faculty, students and staff.  This is an entry level position. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates in business administration looking to gain accounting experience in higher education.

Responsibilities*

  • Accounting Administration 
  • Support accounts payable and statement of account reconciliation duties
  • Review and process department procurement requests and transactions using M-Pathways administration systems, M-Marketsite, and UM Purchasing and Strategic vendor contracts as well as handle inquiries from shared services as needed
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff, Accounts Payable office, vendors and others to ensure procurement processes are completed timely and accurately
  • Process vendor invoices for payment, ensuring transactions are appropriate and charged to the correct accounts
  • Serve as a point of contact for departmental PCard holders and reconcilers and assist faculty and staff, working with the shared services office, submit PCard and expense reimbursement reports through CONCUR system as needed
  • Deposit checks and cash ensuring that proper cash handling procedures are followed
  • Assist in maintaining department files and records databases
  • Perform other accounting and financial tasks as assigned
  • Manage the timekeeping function 

Front Desk and Office Management 

  • Support the Dean's Office front desk management, including but not limited to answering phone calls, greeting and directing visitors and performing general office management administrative tasks.
  • Order office supplies

Required Qualifications*

  • Associate's degree (or equivalent work experience) and some bookkeeping/front office administration experience
  • Excellent cmputer skills, with proficiency in Excel
  • Great numerical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse community using technology effectively
  • Exceptional customer service experience
  • Exceptional and demonstrated communication skills

Desired Qualifications*

  • Understanding of fund accounting rules
  • Proficiency with UM data management and reporting systems is preferred
