Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an Information Governance Officer to join the University to support the Information Governance Manager & Data Protection Officer in the provision of an information governance service and to ensure that the University complies with the General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act 2018, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and related legislation.

This is a key post, reporting to the Information Governance Manager & Data Protection Officer Manager and will be instrumental in interpreting and applying information governance codes of practice and legislation including the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR) for staff within the University and its subsidiary companies in a practical and easily-understood way. The post will also manage requests for information made to the University under the GDPR, DPA, FOIA and EIR in compliance with legislation, best practice and internal University policies and, amongst other things, will assist with supporting colleagues across the University who act as DPA/FOIA contacts within their schools and services with a view to ensuring that best practice is embedded within their teams.

The successful candidate must be educated to degree level or equivalent in law or in a similar field or hold significant relevant professional experience. They will also have experience of providing information governance advice to colleagues in a large, diverse organisation and interpreting complex legislation as well as providing guidance and practical solutions to colleagues to ensure information governance compliance. Experience of producing and delivering training is essential particularly in relation to data protection, covering legislative and corporate issues and processes. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. Candidates must be able to work under pressure and deal sensitively with confidential information. The ability to proactively maintain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance is also required.
