Infection Control Preventionist, Yale Health
Located in a 144,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility on the Yale campus, Yale Health provides comprehensive health care to over 40,000 members including the University’s faculty, staff, and students as well as their dependents and eligible retirees. Yale Health holds multiple facility licenses through the State of Connecticut: Chronic and Convalescent Home; Infirmary; Ambulatory Clinic and Ambulatory Surgery (Endoscopy Suite). Yale Health is accredited by The Joint Commission with recognition as a Primary Care Medical Home. We are currently seeking an Infection Preventionist to serve as the organizational expert on practical methods of preventing and controlling the spread of infectious diseases Position will also be responsible for providing ongoing training and educational support for 400+ staff members employed by Yale Health.
The Infection Preventionist will develop robust infection control standards that meet JCAHO, OSHA, CMS, CD, as well as other nationally recognized standards and internal organizational practices and directs the implementation of infection control and prevention policies; develop educational programs in response to identified infection control needs through department rounding, surveillance program, department quality measures or any other means; educates staff and supports on-boarding program and general orientation by providing infection control training for all newly hired employees.
The Infection Preventionist will participate in the investigation and reporting of infectious outbreaks in the organization, and at times, with the CDC. They will actively interface with the Connecticut Department of Health and local health departments. They will analyze, identify and present organizational trends and variances in addition to developing plan in conjunction with the Yale Health Infection Control Committee. The Infection Preventionist will complete the organization’s Infection Control Risk Assessment; integrate the infection control and prevention program with the organization’s QAIC process and collaborate with the Pharmacy on our antimicrobial stewardship program that includes antibiotic use and prescribing protocols, laboratory communication and a system for monitoring antimicrobial use; actively serves on various Yale Health Committees including Infection Control and Prevention Committee, Environmental Health & Safety Committee, Custodial & Housekeeping, etc.
1. Develop and coordinate the organization-wide infection prevention and control program. 2. Formulate, establish, evaluate and implement evidence-based policies, procedures and strategies to ensure compliance with various regulatory standards. 3. Collect, analyze and provide infection data and trends. 4. Provide education, training and serve as a resource to staff on infection control policies, practices and protocols. 5. Provide on-going risk assessment. 6. Monitor and enforce compliance strategies.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and four years of related infection preventionist work experience in an acute care hospital or full service ambulatory center.
